For Handed By, sustainability is as much an integral part of the corporate strategy as the production of its range, which is characterized by social and societal responsibility. Handed By products are mainly manufactured in Vietnam and China. These are two countries with centuries of know-how in handicraft techniques, but also with typical Asian traditions and customs. This requires respect, understanding, and patience. Many of the people living there earn their main income from working in the rice fields or with cows, poultry, and fruit cultivation on their small farms. They live with their children, parents, and grandparents under one roof. To improve their livelihood, some mothers and grandmothers weave baskets for Handed By after work. They can freely integrate weaving into their daily routine and work from home, far from mass production in factories. When the baskets are finished, they are brought to a collection point, where they are checked and cleaned, and the finishing touches are applied. From a central warehouse, they are packed and shipped to the Netherlands. Handed By provides work for around 300 skilled artisans. These are women who perform their work with love, for fair pay, and above all, under healthy and hygienic conditions, and who are very committed to Handed By.
This strategy has allowed the Dutch company to grow into a leading brand for high-quality, hand-woven baskets, bags, and home accessories.
