The bag is mainly made of PE plastic – and the great thing is: 70% of this material is recycled. Modern recycling processes make it possible for deposit bottles, for example, which consumers have put into the return machines in supermarkets, to be shredded, cleaned and pressed into small bales. These bales or chips are then melted and spun into polyester threads, which can then be used again to manufacture new products, from garden furniture, to pallets, to household and kitchen appliances and textiles of all kinds.

The topic of sustainability is as much a natural part of Handed By's corporate strategy as the production of its range, characterized by social and corporate responsibility. Handed By products are mainly manufactured in Vietnam and China. Two countries with centuries of expertise in handicraft techniques, but also with typical Asian traditions and customs. They can freely integrate weaving into their daily routine and work from home, far from mass production in factories. When the baskets are finished, they are brought to a collection point, where they are inspected and cleaned and the finishing also takes place. From a central warehouse, they are packed and shipped to the Netherlands. Handed By offers work to around 300 skilled artisans. Women who carry out their work with love, for fair pay and, above all, under healthy and hygienic conditions, and who are very committed to Handed By.
